Finis Horne (deceased) served as Lander's first athletics director and men's head basketball coach from 1968-97. During those 29 years he was the guiding force behind Lander athletics. Under his leadership Lander developed a competitive NCAA Division II program. He was also a leader in the NAIA, both at the District 6 and national level and played a major role in the development of the Peach Belt Athletic Conference. As a coach, he was the recipient of numerous coach of the year awards and finished his career with 491 victories. Inducted 1999.
