This Week in Bearcat Athletics: Volume 23

GREENWOOD - There are plenty of chances for fans to see the Bearcats at home this week as the men's and women's tennis teams, baseball team, men's & women's lacrosse teams and the acrobatics and tumbling teams all have home contests.

Tickets for all home events will be $5 with kids 12 and under will be admitted free of charge. All Lander students and faculty/staff will be admitted free of charge after presenting a valid Lander ID. No pets are allowed in any game facility unless they are ADA certified with their paperwork.

Last time out
The men's lacrosse team fell 14-9 to No. 9 Anderson last Saturday. The Bearcats were led by Nolan Oakey's four goals while Adam Mather had a goal, three assists, four points, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Lander would pepper the Trojan keeper with 29 total shots going on goal. The Bearcats would also cause a season-high 21 turnovers in the loss.

The Bearcats begin conference action this Saturday when the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville come to Greenwood on March 25.
Last time out
The Lander baseball team is coming off a 2-2 week that saw losses to No. 1 North Greenville and North Georgia. Lander went 2-1 in a PBC series against North Georgia this past week. The Bearcats won the first game 6-4 behind 10 strikeouts from Nick Foray and Bennett Nance who got the win and save respectively. Lander had 11 hits in the win and saw four extra-base hits along with a home run.
Game three of the series saw the Blue and Gold win 10-6 in the 11th inning. Lander wouldn't score until the eighth when it brought four home to score.
The Bearcats would score one run in the 10th while five would score in the 11th. lander saw three RBI from Connor Droze and another two from Dalton Stroud and Jackson Hoshour in the series victory.

Lander hits the road to battle Wingate on Tuesday, March 21 before returning home to battle Claflin in a PBC series starting March 24
Last Time Out
Lander defeated Converse and USC Sumter on March 18th during a doubleheader. The Bearcats were victorious 5-2 over the Valkyries, and 4-0 over the Fire Ants. Hannah Panchal only allowed seven set points between both matches. Women’s tennis was ranked 38th this week in Division II.

The Bearcats will host North Georgia (March 24th), and Young Harris (March 25th) this week.
Last Time Out
The Bearcats’ only match of the week came against USC Sumter on March 16th. Lander returned home with an 8-1 victory over the juco school. Men’s tennis won every Singles match over the Fire Ants. Lander also moved up the rankings, now 10th in Division II.

What's on tap
#10 Men’s tennis will play in four matches this week. First, Newberry comes to Greenwood on March 21st, followed by a trip to North Greenville on March 22nd. The Bearcats continue conference play this weekend hosting North Georgia (March 24th) and Young Harris (March 25th).
Last time out
The softball team dropped two out of three to Young Harris over the weekend. The Bearcats lost two one-run heartbreakers on Saturday, but rebounded to win game three 7-3.

The Bearcats hit the road to take on Catawba on Wednesday and Georgia College on the weekend.
Last time out
The Lander Women’s Lacrosse team fell to 17th-ranked Embry Riddle on Thursday, 15-8. The Bearcats fell down 9-1 in the first half but were able to put up seven goals in the second but Embry-Riddle was able to keep the Bearcats at arm's length for the rest of the game.

The Bearcats are back at home today at 3:00 PM for a game against Mount Olive.
Last time out
Acrobatics & Tumbling brought home a 1-1 split after a tri-meet against Chowan and #8 Converse on March 18th. The Bearcats scored 252.655, topping Chowan’s 59.750. Converse handed Lander their first loss of the season, scoring 257.135.

Lander will host the last home meet of the season on Wednesday, March 22nd at 5 pm. The Bearcats will battle Emmanuel and #6 Limestone on Senior Night.

#17 Women's golf will compete in the Surratt Memorial Invitational hosted by Wingate on March 20-21st in Monroe, N.C.

Last time out
The Lander Men’s Rugby team went 2-2 over the weekend at the Gamecock 7s tournament. The Bearcats topped in-state foes Clemson and South Carolina but fell twice to Queens, once in pool play and once in the quarterfinals.

What’s on Tap
The Blue and Gold are back in action on April 1st as they take part in another SRC 7s tournament, this time hosted by Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Last time out
The Lander Track and Field teams competed for the first time over the weekend and had four athletes score points for the Bearcats.
Addy Davis placed seventh in the javelin, Alejandra Sabotino placed eighth in the javelin as well.
For the men, Malcom Johnson placed fifth in the triple jump and Gage Kukucka placed eighth in the high jump.
