Spring Sport Athletes Give Back to Greenwood with Annual Trash Pickup

GREENWOOD, S.C. – For the second straight year, Lander Athletics partnered with local clean-up group Trash Time with Tara for a community-wide trash pickup across Greenwood. This past weekend marked the first half of the initiative, featuring student-athletes from Lander's spring sports. Fall sport programs will participate during their offseason later this spring.

Across multiple locations around Greenwood, Bearcat student-athletes collected 121 bags of trash, removing everything from everyday litter to larger items such as a discarded bed frame and several hubcaps.
"Being able to give back to the Greenwood community—which comes out and supports our student-athletes every year in a variety of ways—is a big part of who we are at Lander," said Athletics Director Brian Reese. "It allows our student-athletes to become well-rounded people who will have success long after they graduate."

During the 2024-25 academic year, Lander student-athletes combined to collect more than 270 bags of trash across the two service days.

Members of the Greenwood community who want to get involved with Tara's organization, which holds community cleanup days throughout the year, can follow the Facebook page here.
