Men's lacrosse falls to No. 9 Anderson, 14-9

GREENWOOD – The Lander men's lacrosse team battled No. 9/12 Anderson at Van Taylor Stadium and fell 14-9 Saturday afternoon.

Lander falls to 6-3 overall while Anderson improves to 9-1 overall.

Nolan Oakey led the Bearcats in scoring with four goals while Kyle DeCrispino was second with two goals. Both Oakey and Adam Mather were tied for the team lead in points with four while Krew Conroy and DeCrispino both collected five ground balls. DeCrispino and Mather both were tied for caused turnovers with three each.

Lander took a 3-1 lead after the first quarter with Mather and DeCrispino scoring the first two goals of the game to put Lander up 2-0 with 5:45 left in the first. Anderson would find its first goal with 3:17 left before Oakey scored with 1:27 to put Lander up 3-1.

Both sides would make five saves each with Lander putting 8-of-12 shots on goal while Anderson put 6-of-10.

The Trojans would explode in the second quarter, scoring six goals to take a 7-4 lead going into the half. Oakey would score a man-up goal with 4:30 left in the second quarter to make it 5-4 Anderson.

Although being outscored by Anderson in the third and fourth, Lander would only trail Anderson in second-half goals 7-5.

The Bearcats did open the third quarter with back-to-back goals from Okaey and Conroy to make it a 7-6 game before Anderson scored three unanswered goals to close the quarter with a 9-6 lead.

The Trojans picked up in the fourth quarter with an opening goal to go up 10-6 before Carter Wilcox and Oakey scored back-to-back goals to make it an 11-8 contest with 8:21. The Trojans would go back on the attack with three goals before DeCrispino would finish the scoring with a goal at the 1:06 mark of the fourth.

Nicholas Paige played all 60 minutes and made 15 saves.

Lander enters conference play next Saturday as it welcomes the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville to Greenwood, S.C., on March 25 for a 1 pm start.
