GREENWOOD - Lander men's lacrosse and Head Coach Anthony LePore have announced three staff updates heading into the fall of 2022.
The first of which is the promotion of Bryce Gifford to the position of assistant coach. A member of the coaching staff during the 2021-22 season as a graduate assistant, Coach Gifford was tasked with coaching the goalkeepers and orchestrating the teams' clearing game. Under Gifford's mentorship, goalkeeper Liam Mackay finished the 2022 season fourth in the NCAA in save percentage, and Lander finished second in the NCAA in clearing percentage. A former Inside Lacrosse 1st Team All American and USILA Academic All American at Belmont Abbey College, Coach Gifford finished his Masters of Science in Management at Lander in July of 2022.
The Bearcats are also pleased to announce the addition of Adam Weidemann to the Bearcat staff as a Graduate Assistant Coach. A three-time USILA All-American and former Conference Carolinas Player of the Year at Belmont Abbey College, Weidemann was drafted in the first round of the National Lacrosse League Draft in the fall of 2018 by the Georgia Swarm. A native of Caledon, Ontario, Wiedemann enters his fourth season with the Swarm and has spent this past summer in British Columbia playing with the Nanaimo Timbermen of the WLA where he was named WLA Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-League. Weidemann will be pursuing his Masters of Business Administration at Lander University.
The final announcement is the departure of William Callegari from the Bearcat coaching staff. After a lengthy application and interview process, Callegari has been accepted to attend the 35th LDWF Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he will begin his training to become a Wildlife Enforcement Agent for the state of Louisiana. An integral part of the coaching staff since the inception of the program Callegari was a member of the Bearcat staff from 2020 through the 2022 seasons where he coached the face-off unit, handled the substitution game, served as recruiting coordinator and worked within the University's graduate admissions office.
