GREENWOOD - Head Field Hockey Coach,
Robbert Schenk, has released the schedule for the Lander Field Hockey Team's Inaugural 2022 season. The Bearcats will compete in the Mountain Division of the South Atlantic Conference. The schedule includes four home games that will be played at Emerald High School.
"I am thankful of the flexibility of the other universities and the South Atlantic Conference to allow us to move around the home and away schedule for 2022/2023," said Schenk. "We would also like to thank Emerald High School for allowing us to use their facility for our team to be able to host home games in our inaugural season."
The season will open up with five straight road games. The Bearcats first-ever game will be one of the toughest of the season as they will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. take on defending SAC Champions, Converse, on September 9th. This will be followed by trips to fellow first-year program Lincoln Memorial on September 17th, Limestone on September 27th, Newberry on October 1st, and Mount Olive on October 5th.
The Bearcats will host their first home game on Saturday, October 8th at 3:00 PM as they will host Lincoln Memorial at Emerald. The Blue and Gold will host Belmont Abbey on Tuesday, October 11th.
Lander will follow this short homestand with a trip to Missouri to play another first-year program in Maryville on October 17th before playing Lindenwood on October 19th.
The Bearcats will then host in-state rival Newberry on October 22nd in the penultimate home game of the season. This will be followed by two more road games at Converse on October 25th and Wingate on October 29th.
The final home game of the season will be on November 1st against Coker before the Bearcats close the regular season with games at Mount Olive on November 5th and Limestone on November 11th.
The South Atlantic Conference Tournament will be held the week of November 15th with games being played at the higher seed's venue.
"I am really excited about the strength of the team. We have a great group of motivated student/athletes that will all have a very important part in this new program. I am looking forward to build this program with them and can't wait what the future holds for us."
