Rock Hill, S.C. - For the second time this season, freshman
Sophie Schmitz has been named Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week by the South Atlantic Conference. Schmitz earned the honor earlier this year after her four goal performance against Lincoln Memorial making her the first player in program history to earn a weekly honor by the South Atlantic Conference.
Schmitz recorded nine points last week across three games. She contributed to all five of the Bearcats goals against both Newberry and Wingate, scoring the game winning goal in both games. Her goal against Newberry broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth quarter that the Bearcats would hold on to to upset the Wolves in Newberry.
Schmitz leads the team in points with 30 and goals with 13. Her 26 points in SAC play puts her one behind defending SAC Player of the Year, Lotte Kanters, and her 12 goals in conference play has her tied with Kanters.
She and the rest of the Lander Field Hockey Team will be back in action this evening as they will welcome the Coker Cobras to Frank Hill Stadium. That game is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM.
