Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Lander men's lacrosse team held a 10-5 lead midway through the third quarter, but saw Alabama Huntsville score seven of the game's final eight goals, including the game-winner with 38 seconds remaining, to earn a 12-11 PBC win on Saturday afternoon.
Adam Mather led Lander with three goals on the day, while Nolan Oakey collected five ground balls. Carson Theriault tallied two goals and two assists for the Bearcats.
Both teams netted three goals in the first quarter with Theriault scoring twice and Oakey adding a goal for Lander. The Bearcats built a 6-3 lead with two goals from Krew Conroy and another from Drew Wilson in the second quarter, but the Chargers responded with two goals to cut Lander's lead to 6-5 entering halftime.
Mather helped Lander build its largest lead of the afternoon in the third quarter, scoring three goals of his own while Wilson added another to put the Bearcats up 10-5 with 7:06 to play in the third quarter. However, Alabama Huntsville rallied with a 5-0 run to knot the score. Jacob Douglas put the Bearcats back on top with 3:30 to play, but the Chargers tied the game 35 seconds later and managed to net the game's final goal with 38 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Lander plays its final home game of the regular season on Wednesday as the Bearcats host Emmanuel in a non-conference contest at Van Taylor Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
