ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – With the season essentially reset last week after a win to kick off Peach Belt Conference play, Lander men's lacrosse carried that momentum over to the first half of Saturday afternoon's game versus No. 20 Flagler but fell behind in the third quarter and couldn't recover in a 12-7 loss.
The Bearcats are now 5-7 and 1-1 in the Peach Belt while the Saints went to 8-4, 2-0.
Lander tied the game at 4 during the second quarter before a scoreless third quarter – combined with five Flagler goals – created an insurmountable deficit.
Sean Reilly and
Carson Skinner were the Bearcats' leading goal-getters as each had two.
Matt Duarte,
Brandon Perkins and
Josh Rosa rounded out the scoring contingent.
In spite of the loss, LU had its way on face-offs, winning 15 of 23.
Breton Crewe won 12 of the 17 he took.
Max Porterfield made 11 saves for a .478 save percentage and faced 57 shots throughout the day.
The Bearcats have two weeks to prepare for Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday, April 11 at home. The game will start at 1 p.m. with Senior Day ceremonies preceding it.
