GREENWOOD – Saturday marked Senior Day for the Lander men's lacrosse team at Van Taylor Stadium – and it was a day to remember as the Bearcats dominated Alabama-Huntsville 17-7 in Peach Belt Conference action.
The eight Bearcats recognized prior to today's game were
Anthony Shura,
Jeremy Wudrick,
Michael Mattaliano,
Josh Rosa,
Carson Skinner,
Lucas Shaver,
Brandon Perkins and
Breton Crewe.
Lander's win pushed their record to 6-7, 2-1 PBC. UAH fell to 3-11, 0-3.
Seven Bearcats scored twice against the Chargers:
Luke Aspnes, Mattaliano,
Sean Reilly,
Levi Roest, Rosa, Skinner and Wudrick. 14 Bearcats total registered a point.
It was tied at 2 after the first quarter but Lander blanked UAH in the second and led 7-2 at halftime. Roest scored both of his goals during the run.
Matt Duarte and
Vince Rappold also scored, as did Skinner.
LU outmatched the Chargers 5-4 in the third quarter to lead 12-6. LU followed that up by netting five more goals during the fourth quarter, one of which came from the stick of Perkins.
The Bearcats truly dominated this game and a large part of it can be attributed to their causing a season-high 16 turnovers of the Chargers.
Max Porterfield claimed three of those and
Mitchell Festi,
Zach Kobzar and
Brody Tweit all posted two. Porterfield also made six saves.
Lander blitzed UAH with 65 shots – the second-most they've had in a game this season – with half of those (32) on target.
LU won the face-off battle 15-12 and converted 3 of 5 extra-man opportunities.
The Bearcats close the regular season at the Falcons of Montevallo next Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT.
