Robbert Schenk named first Field Hockey coach at Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Lander University athletic director Brian Reese announced that Robbert Schenk has been named the first field hockey coach in school history.

"Lander Athletics is so excited to have Robbert join our staff and be the first head coach for our Field hockey team," commented Reese. "We had an excellent pool of candidates and with Robbert's plan of action that he shared with us is exciting and is exactly what we need to get the program started. His experience with student-athletes, recruiting connections, and innovate strategy will help us have success going forward."

Schenk comes to Lander from the University of North Carolina, serving as an assistant coach since 2019. In his three seasons on the coaching staff, the Tar Heels had an overall record of 55-8, won three ACC Championships, two National Championships, and the coaching staff was named NCAA Staff of the Year twice. Robbert worked with all aspects of the North Carolina program, focusing on the team's offense. In each of his three seasons working with the offense, the Tar Heels finished in the top five nationally in goals per game, points per game, and scoring average.

Before joining the UNC staff, Schenk served as the Hockey Development Manager at Hurstpierpoint College, a boarding school in the United Kingdom. There he coached all levels and abilities while also redesigning the school's sport guidelines and programs. He has also served as the Head of Hockey Development at Caterham School in the U.K.
Schenk has played and coached in the Netherlands, England, and Australia. His playing career has included stints with Premier League clubs in Den Haag, the Netherlands; Melbourne, Australia; and East Grinstead and Oxted, England.

"I am excited for this opportunity at Lander to create and develop a program with strong core values in a safe and healthy environment for young female athletes," Schenk said. "Working at UNC has given me the experience of working in a top-class US program, and combined with my international background, I bring a fresh perspective to the growing sport of field hockey."
