Green, Alwardt Earn PBC Volleyball Weekly Honors

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Lander volleyball's Madeline Green and Sam Alwardt earned Peach Belt Conference weekly honors, the league announced Monday.

Green was named the PBC Setter of the Week, while Alwardt earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. The award marks the first of Green's young career, while Alwardt collected the honor for the second time this season and the second time in her career.

The duo helped Lander open PBC play 2-0 with home victories over Georgia College and Middle Georgia.

Green, a freshman setter, totaled 77 assists across eight sets, averaging 9.63 assists per set. She also recorded 26 digs, seven kills, and six total blocks over the two victories.

Against Georgia College, Green posted 42 assists and season highs of 20 digs and four total blocks as Lander earned a five-set victory. She added two kills and an ace.

Green followed with 35 assists, six digs and five kills while hitting .455 in the Bearcats' 3-0 sweep of Middle Georgia.

Alwardt anchored the Lander defense with 41 digs across eight sets, averaging 5.13 digs per set for the week. She also added nine assists and two service aces.

The junior recorded 18 digs, six assists, and two aces in the five-set victory over Georgia College. Alwardt then posted a week-high 23 digs in just three sets against Middle Georgia, averaging 7.67 digs per set in the sweep.

Alwardt previously earned PBC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Aug. 31 following the Bearcats' opening weekend of the season.

The Bearcats return to action Tuesday, Sept. 22, when they travel to Augusta, Ga., to take on the Augusta Jaguars. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
