GAINESVILLE, Ga. -
Carly Fuel led the Lander Women's Cross Country team for the second straight week as she placed ninth to help the Bearcats finish as runners-up at the UNG Cross Country Invitational. Fuel became the first female Bearcat runnerĀ to place in the top-ten at a non-dual meet since the program was reinstated in 2017. North Georgia won the meet with a team score of 22.
The Bearcats had a team average of 20:37, over a minute faster than the team's average at Eye Opener last week (21:50)
The West Columbia, S.C. native finished the five-kilometer race in a time of 19:31 for her ninth place finish, over 30 seconds faster than her time last week.
Amara Hille was the second Bearcat finisher in her debut as she finished 15th in a time of 20:16.
Hanna Martin was the next Lander finisher with a time of 20:41, over a minute and a half faster than last week.
Madeline Beal and
Rachel Schenck were the final Bearcat scorers. Beal ran 21:09 while Schenck ran a PR of 21:30.
Kiersten Thatcher ran a PR of 22:13 while
Sofia Reihman (23:19) and
Katie Lea (23:36) each added PRs of their own.
Lander will have a week off before taking part in the Akiah McMillan Invitational on September 28th. Start time for the first 6k of the year is set for 10:00 AM.
