Fuel Named Peach Belt Female Runner of the Week

MARTINEZ, Ga. – Lander junior Carly Fuel (West Columbia, S.C.) has been named the Peach Belt Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Fuel becomes the first Bearcat to earn the award since the program was reinstated in 2017 and the first overall since Olga Nunez-Lopez in 2007. It is the fourth weekly honor in program history.

The West Columbia native earned the recognition after placing fourth at the Brevard XC Classic on Friday. Fuel ran 18:55.72 to break the program's junior class record, which had stood since 1998. Her finish helped Lander to a third-place team result, second among NCAA Division II schools in the field.

The Bearcats return to action Friday, Oct. 3, at the Spartan Classic hosted by UNC Greensboro.
