Fuel Breaks 30-Year-Old Program Record at Royals XC Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Junior Carly Fuel made program history on Friday, shattering a 30-year-old school record as the Lander women's cross country team competed at the Royals XC Challenge hosted by Queens University at McAlpine Creek Park.

Fuel, a West Columbia, S.C. native, ran 18:20.38, eclipsing the previous program record of 18:42.00 set by Karin Gustavsson on Sept. 17, 1995, at the Milliken Arboretum. Her time placed her 32nd overall in the Gold Division and stands as the fastest 5K in program history.

In the Blue Division, seven Bearcats raced as Lander recorded its third consecutive top-five team finish, placing fourth overall.

Freshman Elizabeth Reid continued her strong debut season with a 10th-place finish in 19:31.83, followed closely by sophomore Amara Hille, who finished 13th in 19:41.75—both marking season bests.

Juniors Madeline Beal (20:35.99) and Rachel Schenck (20:49.21) placed 31st and 37th, respectively, while freshman Sophie Bridges rounded out the scoring five in 51st place with a 21:17.17.

Arianna Nabbie ran 21:45.11, and Emma Seay clocked 23:02.04 to complete the lineup.

The Bearcats will next compete at the Peach Belt Conference Championship hosted by Georgia College and State University on Friday, Oct. 25, in Milledgeville, Ga.
