Lander Notches Second-Straight Top-Five Finish at Spartan Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Carly Fuel placed 20th overall and was the top non-Division I finisher as the Lander women's cross country team earned its second straight top-five finish with a fourth-place showing at the Spartan Classic hosted by UNC Greensboro on Friday evening.

Fuel led the Bearcats for the second consecutive meet, covering the 5K course in 19:16.8, her second-fastest time of the season.

Freshman Elizabeth Reid followed in 22nd place with a time of 19:49.6, while sophomore Amara Hille crossed in 20:22.2. Juniors Rachel Schenck and Madeline Beal completed the scoring five in 21:26.0 and 21:43.8, respectively.

The Bearcats posted a 1–5 average of 20:31 and now have back-to-back top-five finishes to open the season after placing third at Brevard.

Sophie Bridges (22:10.0), Arianna Nabbie (22:33.0), and Emma Seay (24:06.0) rounded out the lineup for the Blue and Gold.

Lander will return to action Friday, Oct. 10, at the Royals XC Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C.—one of the fastest courses in the Southeast.
