MARTINEZ, GA. - For the third consecutive week, the Lander men's soccer team has earned a weekly conference award. Jed Smith has been named the Peach Belt Conference Defender of The Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

The Essex, England native played all 180 minutes this past week against USC Aiken and Young Harris. On the road against the Pacers, Smith and the Bearcat's defense held Aiken to just one shot on goal en route to a 1-0 win. Smith was also active on the offensive end as well, as he put away a contested ball in the box for the only goal of the game.

Playing another full 90 minutes against Young Harris, Smith and the Bearcat's defensive group held the Mountain Lions scoreless in a 0-0 tie. The defensive unit contained Young Harris, allowing no shots to be attempted in the second half.

Lander hits the road for a pair of games this week. On Wednesday, Lander will face Clayton State before heading to Georgia Southwestern on Saturday.
