KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Lander men's soccer team had a rollercoaster of emotions this past week after a 1-1-1 performance. Although ranked No. 12 last week, the Bearcats remain in the top 20 as the No. 17 team in the United Coaches Soccer National Poll.
The past week saw Lander score four second-half goals from four different players to take down North Georgia on the road 4-1 to begin the week. Lander then traveled to Flagler where the Saints scored a late goal on Senior Day to defeat Lander 1-0. This past Monday saw Lander finish the remaining 24 minutes of a contest against Clayton State that was originally scheduled for October 12. Down 3-2, Marco Gueli scored the tying goal, and all three goals for Lander, to bring the Bearcats even 3-3.
The Bearcats are the No.1 seed in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference Tournament. Lander earned a bye into the semifinals where it will face either No. 4 Young Harris or No. 5 Georgia Southwestern.
Lander has been ranked in the USC Poll for the past three weeks after entering as the No. 19 team in the country.
Since taking over the program in 2015, head coach Lee Squires has led the Bearcats to the semifinals in all eight seasons as the head coach.
