Bond's Fourth-Quarter Goal Lifts Lander Over Mansfield in Non-Conference Finale

GREENWOOD – Mickey Bond tipped a low shot from Floor Mulder into the top of the goal midway through the fourth quarter to give the Lander field hockey team a 1-0 win over Mansfield Saturday afternoon at Frank Hill Stadium in the non-conference finale for the Bearcats.

The win was Lander's first over Mansfield in program history, avenging a 2024 loss in the first meeting between the two teams, when the Mounties scored with less than five minutes remaining to earn the victory.

The game was a physical one, with four cards shown to players and another issued to the Mansfield bench.

After a scoreless first quarter as both teams settled into the game, Lander came out firing in the second quarter, outshooting the visitors 9-1 and putting seven shots on goal. However, great saves by Kiley Moister and a pair of defensive saves by the Mounties kept the game scoreless heading into halftime.

Mansfield flipped the script in the third quarter, outshooting Lander 6-0 and forcing two saves from Avery Tworkoski, who helped secure the second shutout of the season alongside Maddie White.

In the fourth quarter, Lily Ardito had a pair of shots saved, while Ollie Bond also had an attempt stopped. However, Mickey Bond was able to tap in Mulder's shot after a penalty corner was cycled around, giving the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.

From there, the Lander defense held strong, as Mansfield did not record another shot attempt the rest of the way.

Lander returns to South Atlantic Conference play Wednesday evening when it travels to Spartanburg to take on Converse at 7 p.m.
