Lindqvist wins World Golf Invitational in playoff, Bearcats grab 3rd overall

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Kajsa Lindqvist earned the second win of her collegiate career at the World Golf Invitational as the No. 18 Lander women's golf team finished third out of 16 teams to open the spring season at The King & Bear Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.

Lindqvist, who grabbed her first career Individual Medalist honor, started the day four shots back of the lead before firing off a one-under 71 in the final round to climb into first at even-par.

She actually held a one-shot lead on 18 where she bogeyed, necessitating a playoff with Tampa's Justine Bayle.

But not to be denied, the unshakable Lindqvist regrouped and battled Bayle four times on the par-4 9th before making birdie to claim the winners' trophy.

Lindqvist last won the 2024 edition of the Savannah Lakes Invitational in McCormick.

She made 11 birdies this week (T2 in the field) and 36 pars (T6). Additionally, Lindqvist was second in par-4 scoring (-2) and T6 in par-5 scoring (-2).

The stout field consisted of 12 top-25 programs. Host and No. 13 Flagler won the tournament at +19. No. 12 Nova Southeastern was two shots ahead of Lander at +28 in second. No. 17 Tampa (+31) and No. 10 Florida Southern (+42) were fourth and fifth.

LU had a dominant collective final round at +4 292 which was seven shots better than the competition.

Sakurako Tanaka finished second for the Bearcats at +8. Tanaka shot 73-77-74 and sank eight birdies.

Isabel Ewers (+12) had a nice rebound from Monday where she was +10 after two rounds, carding a 74 today to climb 11 spots up the leaderboard for a 27th-place tie.

Josefine Winkle (+16) also had an impressive recovery today in the form of a 10-stroke improvement from Round 2, shooting a 73 while gaining 21 spots.

Completing the Blue and Gold's scoring was Lara Stifter at +24. She went 80-77-83.

Lander is back at it next week in Barton's Battle at Hilton Head at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club at Palmetto Dunes on Feb. 16-17.
