Women's Golf takes 3rd place at St. Simons Intercollegiate

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Competing at the King and Prince Golf Club in the St. Simons Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial, the Lander women's golf team finished third out of 18 teams this week.

It marks the third consecutive top-five finish to begin the year, and the second top-three result for the Bearcats.

Wingate (-7) won the tournament with West Florida (+26) in second place, just four shots ahead of the Blue and Gold. Flagler (+37) and Carson-Newman (+38) completed the top-five.

Only two players in a field of 100 scored under par, signaling the high degree of difficulty presented throughout the tournament.

Sakurako Tanaka showed the way for Lander and tied for sixth overall at +3. She followed up a pair of 74s on Sunday and Monday – the tournament schedule was altered due to the threat of rain – with a 71 today on the par-72 layout.

Tanaka's four-under performance on par 3s was best in the field while her 38 pars tied for third-most.

Kajsa Lindqvist (+6) rebounded from an opening-round 80 with back-to-back 71s on Monday and Tuesday to tie for 12th. She had nine birdies over her three rounds which put her in the top-10 in the category.

Felicitas Kampshoff (Ind.) slotted in next for Lander at +12 in a tie for 28th. Kampshoff had scores of 75-76-77 and made eight birdies.

A shot behind her at +13 and tied for 31st were a trio of Bearcats – Isabel Ewers, Josefine Winkle and Lara Stifter.

Ewers finished with her best round of the tournament today, a 74. She also made eagle on the 416-yard par-5 3rd hole during the first round and was tied for fifth in par-5 scoring overall.

Winkle carded rounds of 78-75-76 while her 37 pars tied for fifth-most in the field.

Stifter had five birdies this week and closed with a pair of 76s in the second and third rounds after a first-round 77.

Lander is back at it next week in North Georgia's LeeAnn Noble Memorial at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega on Oct. 13 and 14.
