DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Playing in the Peach State on Monday and Tuesday in North Georgia's LeeAnn Noble Memorial, the Lander women's golf team finished sixth of 16 teams this week.
The tournament, which was hosted at Achasta Golf Club, was won by Wingate at 15-under-par. Anderson was second at nine-under, followed by Lee (-5), North Georgia (+4) and Saint Leo (+10), who was just five shots ahead of Lander.
The Bearcats produced a remarkable nine-under 279 in the second round for their lowest single round team score since at least 2009-10, which is also the second-lowest single round team score in the Peach Belt Conference during that time period (UNG, 10-under 278 last season.)
Kajsa Lindqvist earned a top-10 result (T9) at two-under-par. She fired off a three-under 69 in the first round, followed by a 72 and a 73 in the final round. Lindqvist had 11 birdies and made her hay on the par-4s as she tied for the tournament scoring lead, shooting four-under on those holes.
Isabel Ewers tied for 22nd at three-over. She scored rounds of 75, 71 and 73 while sinking 11 birdies throughout. Ewers also found herself in the top-10 in par-4 scoring, tying for seventh at -1.
Lara Stifter (+6) had an incredible second-round 67 that included seven birdies. That ties the third-lowest round in PBC history. The Germany-native sank 10 birdies total this week while tying for 35th.
This week's PBC Women's Golfer of the Week,
Sakurako Tanaka, was next on the leaderboard for the Bearcats in a 42nd-place tie. Tanaka recovered from an opening-round 80 with a 69 in the second round and a 75 today. She had five birdies in her low middle round and 10 altogether.
Rachel Bowen (Ind.) and
Felicitas Kampshoff were +23.
The Bearcats have next week off but conclude the fall season on Oct. 27-28 at Currahee Club in Toccoa, Georgia, in the D2 Currahee Elite Invitational hosted by Anderson.
