Lander Wraps up Two Days of Competition at Electric City Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. — The Lander track and field teams turned in multiple record-setting performances at the 2025 Electric City Invitational, held April 4-5 at Anderson University. The Bearcats produced numerous personal bests, school records, and strong performances across the two-day meet.

On the track, Michael Balkman led the men's team with new program records in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Balkman placed sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.67 seconds and earned a runner-up finish in the 400 meters, clocking 47.92. Tymia Willis set school records in the women's 200 meters (25.99) and 400 meters (57.65), placing 10th and 5th, respectively.

Lander also added new program records in the distance events. Amara Hille set a new mark in the women's mile at 5:37.74, while Carly Fuel claimed the school record in the 10,000 meters at 39:45.38. On the men's side, Noah Chevalier broke his school record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:05.99. In the hurdles, Mathew Peach posted a school-best 15.13 in the 110-meter hurdles.

In the sprints, Vernon Watson took third place in the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.59, establishing a new school record in the event.

The Bearcats also excelled in the field events. Yiddisha Lyles recorded school records in the women's hammer throw (39.80m) and javelin (28.59m), while Allyson Woolever set a new program best in the women's pole vault at 2.50 meters. Dylan Gilder set three new men's field records, throwing 36.76 meters in the discus, 37.43 meters in the hammer throw, and 51.12 meters in the javelin.

Lander added new school records in the men's triple jump (13.52m by Tylan Fowler) and high jump (1.90m by Gage Kukucka), while Kiersten Thatcher established a new women's triple jump record at 10.53 meters.

The Bearcats will compete next at the Georgia Showdown in Statesboro, Ga., hosted by Georgia Southern on April 12th. This is the last regular season meet for Lander before the Peach Belt Conference Championships on April 28th and 29th.
