SPRING HILL, N.C. – The Lander track and field teams delivered a record-setting performance at the Tryon Mid-Winter Invitational, highlighted by four school records and numerous personal bests across the two-day meet.
Noah Chevalier led the charge on the distance side, breaking two school records. He ran a school-record and personal-best 15:18.34 in the 5,000 meters, placing fifth overall on day one. Chevalier followed that with another school record in the mile, clocking a personal-best 4:34.55.
Carly Fuel added to the historic weekend in the women's 3,000 meters, finishing fourth overall while setting a school record and personal best with a time of 10:22.75.
In the sprints,
Tymia Willis continued her standout indoor season by breaking the school record in the women's 400 meters with a personal-best 58.00. She also posted a personal-best 25.76 in the 200 meters. On the men's side,
Michael Balkman placed fifth overall in the 400 meters with a time of 49.69, while Kendell Rollerson recorded a personal-best 49.96.
Jon Cummings recorded two strong personal bests, running 16:10.67 in the 5,000 meters before winning his heat in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:06.81.
Seth Hammon (16:23.90) and
Bryan Wright (17:05.45) also notched personal bests in the 5K.
Madeline Beal won her heat in the women's 800 meters.
In the field events, Mya Dewelt set a school record in the women's long jump with a personal-best leap of 4.96 meters.
Yiddisha Lyles broke the school record in the women's weight throw with a personal-best mark of 14.13 meters and added a personal-best 10.45 meters in the shot put.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team capped the meet with a second-place finish in 3:22.89.
