COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Lander track and field teams saw another complete performance at the John-Hunter James Classic on the campus of Columbia International
Lander turned in a number of top finishes during the meet, highlighted by multiple event victories.
Michael Balkman claimed the 400 meters with a time of 48.07, while
Tymia Willis took first in the women's 400 meters in 57.56.
Journey Edwards led the way on the women's side with a pair of victories, winning the 100-meter hurdles in a school-record time of 15.51 before adding another school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a winning time of 1:08.
On the men's side, Karson Norman had a standout day, winning the 100 meters and placing second in the 400 meters. Lander dominated the 400 meters as a group, sweeping the top three spots with all three runners posting times in the 48-second range.
In the distance events,
Carly Fuel placed second in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:54.50, while
Adam Bedenbaugh finished fifth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:06.96.
In the field events,
Darby Ward won the javelin with a mark of 35.35 meters, while Yiddisha Lyes also turned in a strong performance in the hammer throw.
Lander also saw additional performances in the sprints, as Willis added a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 25.75, while
Kalyna McLaren placed eighth overall.
The Bearcats also earned a podium finish in the men's 4x100-meter relay as the quartet of
Pharrell Martinez, Norman, Kendel Rollerson, and
Vernon Watson placed third with a time of 42.09.
Lander will take a week off before competing at the Electric City Invitational on April 3rd and 4th at Anderson University.
