Lander powers past Flagler in four-set road victory

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Lander volleyball earned a hard-fought Peach Belt Conference win Friday evening, defeating Flagler 3-1 (26-24, 25-27, 25-18, 27-25) inside Flagler Gym.

The Bearcats (9-7, 2-3 PBC) showcased poise and balance throughout the night, taking control in key moments to silence the Saints (8-11, 2-2 PBC) on their home floor. After splitting the first two sets, Lander caught fire in the third, hitting an impressive .545 as a team while limiting Flagler to just .179. The Bearcats then built a commanding 12–4 lead in the fourth before the Saints battled back to tie it late, but Lander held firm to seal the road victory in extra points.

Katie Miller powered the Lander offense with a dominant 25 kills on a .322 hitting percentage to go along with 11 digs and three aces, marking her fourth 20-plus kill match of the season. Amelia May added seven kills and six blocks while hitting .455, and Ryleigh Willard chipped in seven kills of her own.

Setter Enisilina Savelio turned in an all-around standout performance with 36 assists, six blocks, and two aces while hitting .500 offensively. Her efforts helped Lander overcome Flagler's slight edge in total kills (55-51) by producing more efficient and timely swings.

Defensively, the Bearcats' front line was a difference-maker. Lander recorded 11 total blocks, with Savelio and May each posting six, while holding Flagler to a .209 hitting percentage.

Lander will look to carry its momentum into next week as the Bearcats travel to Tigerville, S.C., on Tuesday to take on North Greenville in their final non-conference match of the season. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
