TIGERVILLE, S.C. - The Lander volleyball team wrapped up its non-conference schedule in dominant fashion Tuesday night, sweeping North Greenville 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-19) on the road.
The Bearcats (10-7) hit an impressive .297 as a team while holding the Trailblazers (8-10) to just a .081 clip. Lander's balanced attack and efficient defense proved too much for North Greenville, as the Bearcats controlled the match from start to finish.
Senior Katie Miller led the way with 14 kills, three blocks, and 16.5 points, while Ryleigh Willard added 11 kills on a .500 hitting percentage. Enisilina Savelio was a key, finishing with 27 assists and seven kills on a stellar .636 hitting night.
Behind the service line, Emmi Cheek recorded three aces, while Sam Alwardt and Amelia May each added two. Defensively, Alwardt paced the Bearcats with 11 digs as Lander outdug the Trailblazers 44-31.
The Bearcats dominated the opening set, hitting .367 and limiting North Greenville to an even .000 hitting percentage. After fending off a mid-set rally in the second, Lander maintained composure to edge out the Trailblazers 25-22 before sealing the sweep with a confident 25-19 third set.
Lander finished with 41 kills, 38 assists, and seven aces, compared to North Greenville's 29 kills, 28 assists, and eight aces.
The Bearcats will return to Peach Belt Conference play this weekend with a home doubleheader against Middle Georgia State. Lander hosts the Knights on Friday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m. and again on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m. inside Finis Horne Arena.
