GREENWOOD - The Lander volleyball team moved its win streak to three Friday night, earning a 3-1 victory (25-15, 22-25, 25-12, 25-15) over Middle Georgia State at Finis Horne Arena during the program's Pink Out match in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
With the win, Lander improves to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in Peach Belt Conference play, while Middle Georgia falls to 5-11 and 0-6 in league action.
Senior standout Katie Miller once again led the charge for the Bearcats, posting a match-high 22 kills while hitting .304 and adding 15 digs and four aces for a complete performance on both sides of the net. Sophomore Karson Browning added nine kills with a .286 hitting percentage with 10 points.Â
Setter Enisilina Savelio kept the Bearcat offense rolling, dishing out 46 assists and tacking on 12 digs and two service aces. Emmi Cheek anchored the defense with 22 digs and a team-leading five aces, while Quinn Butler followed closely with 19 digs of her own.
The Bearcats came out firing in the opening set, hitting an impressive .471 clip behind Miller's powerful attack and Savelio's crisp distribution to take a commanding 25-15 win. After Middle Georgia evened the match with a narrow second-set victory, Lander quickly regained control—dominating the third and fourth sets with balanced offense and aggressive serving.
Lander held Middle Georgia to just a .108 hitting percentage on the night while hitting .284 as a team. The Bearcats also outperformed the Knights in nearly every statistical category, including kills (56-32), aces (14-6), assists (54-31) and digs (82-70).
The win capped off a night that was about more than volleyball, as fans filled Horne Arena in pink to honor and support those affected by breast cancer.
Lander and Middle Georgia will meet again on Saturday, Oct. 18, for a rematch at Horne Arena. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
