Bearcats Dominate Knights to Complete Series Sweep

GREENWOOD - Lander volleyball capped off a dominant weekend with a decisive 3-0 sweep over Middle Georgia State on Saturday afternoon inside Finis Horne Arena. With the win, the Bearcats (12-7, 4-3 PBC) claimed the season series over the Knights (5-12, 0-7 PBC) after also taking victories on Sept. 27 (3-0) and Oct. 17 (3-1).

The Bearcats were in full control from start to finish, posting one of their most efficient offensive performances of the season. Lander hit an impressive .447 as a team, committing just eight errors across the three sets, while holding the Knights to a .072 hitting percentage.

Lander set the tone early with a 25-9 first-set victory behind a blistering .591 hitting clip. The Bearcats continued their dominance with scores of 25-14 and 25-15 in the second and third sets to secure the sweep.

Senior setter Enisilina Savelio orchestrated the attack with 42 assists and added eight digs. Katie Miller and Ryleigh Willard led the offense with 12 kills apiece, hitting .440 and .611, respectively, while Amelia May added nine kills at a .571 clip. Miller also contributed a team-high four blocks, matched by May.

Defensively, Emmi Cheek anchored the back row with 12 digs and chipped in three service aces, while Sam Alwardt added 10 digs of her own.

The Bearcats outperformed the Knights in every major category including kills (50-20), assists (48-20), and digs (45-34), and never allowed Middle Georgia to find momentum.

Lander will look to carry its hot hitting into next weekend's road trip to Aiken, where the Bearcats face the University of South Carolina Aiken in a pair of Peach Belt Conference matchups on Friday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.
