GREENWOOD - The Lander Field Hockey team dropped their penultimate regular season game of 2024 as they fell 1-0 to the Limestone Saints on Halloween night at Frank Hill Stadium.
The game was originally scheduled for October 1st but was postponed due to Hurricane Helene's impact on the Greenwood area.
Lander dropped to 10-6 overall and 9-4 in SAC play while Limestone improved to 11-5 overall and 10-3 in the league. The Saints also picked up the tiebreaker over the Bearcats as this was the only meeting between the two sides this year.
It was an even offensive output from both sides as each team put up eight shots. Lander had four on target, including three shots near the goal in the second quarter, but could not convert.
The Saints picked up the only goal of the game near the end of the third quarter.
Lander pulled goalkeeper Isabel Elenga with about four minutes left in the game but, despite a late penalty corner, could not find the equalizer.
The Bearcats will conclude the regular season on Saturday against the Mount Olive Trojans, the second meeting between the two squads in six days. The game is scheduled for a high-noon start at Frank Hill Stadium.
