Chevalier Paces Bearcats at Eye Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Lander Men's Cross Country team opened their season on Friday evening with a 16th place finish at the Eye Opener in Spartanburg. The meet included teams from all levels of college athletics with representatives from NCAA Division I, II, and III as well as community colleges and NAIA.

The Bearcats had a team average of 33:21.8 across the five scorers in the lineup.

Noah Chevalier (Montgomery, Ala.) led the way in his collegiate debut with a time of 28:25.1 in the eight kilometer race. He was followed by Jonathan Nunez in 29:26.4.

Two returners in Riley Bird (Greenville, S.C.) and Ethan Waites (Pomaria, S.C.) were next across the line for the Men of Lander in times of 31:01.5 and 31:53.9, respectively.

Nathan Purvis (Florence, S.C.) rounded out the scoring five for Lander in a time of 46:04.2 while Jonathan Campbell finished in 49:35.6.

The Bearcats will be back in action on the same course in two weeks as they take part in the Converse Kick-Off.
