BREVARD, N.C. – Junior
Noah Chevalier set a program class record on Friday night, clocking 27:00.42 to finish third overall and pace the Lander men's cross country team to an eighth-place finish at the Brevard XC Classic hosted by Brevard College.
Chevalier's time marked the fastest 8K by a junior in program history, breaking the old standard of 27:32.60 set in 2023 by
Jonathan Nunez. He now holds the sophomore and junior records and sits third all-time in program history behind only Trent Powers (26:27.60) and Timmy Harris (26:34.00).
Lander's pack ran tight behind its leader, with the No. 2–5 scorers separated by just 23 seconds.
Ben Carroll (29:27.83) was second across for the Bearcats, followed by
Griffin Freeman (29:34.96). Jonathan Cummings (29:47.65) and
Ethan Waites (29:50.13) rounded out the scoring five.
Two freshmen made their debuts as
Austin Lewis ran 32:23.69 and
Aaron Cameron finished in 33:39.92, while returner
Trey Sloan clocked 35:51.87.
The Bearcats return to action Friday, Oct. 3, at the Spartan Classic hosted by UNC Greensboro.
