AUGUSTA, Ga. - Lander Women's Basketball player,
Tanyia Gordon, has been named the Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week as annouced by the conference office this afternoon. Gordon becomes the first Bearcat to earn the honor this season and the second player under the direction of head coach
Stephanie Gehlhausen to earn a PBC weekly award, joining
Quadaija Langley last year.
Gordon averaged 22.5 points per game last week in two games, leading the Bearcats in both games against Auburn-Montgomery and Fayetteville State and was also a force on the defensive end as well recording six steals and three blocks.
On Wednesday against the Warhawks she had the first 30-point game for a Bearcat since January 2022 shooting 74% (14/19) from the field and adding two steals and two blocked shots. Gordon followed that up on Saturday by leading Lander with 15 points, including eight points in the fourth quarter. Gordon also grabbed seven rebounds, forced four turnovers, and added two assists, the second of which was a lob from the sideline to
WyKira Johnson-Kelly with .7 seconds left for the game-winning buzzer-beater to give Lander their fourth win in a row.
The Lander Women's Basketball team returns to action on Wednesday as they travel to face the Mars Hill Lions for a 5:30 PM tip-off. The Bearcats will return to Horne Arena next Monday as they face rival Erskine at 5:30 PM.
