Bearcats drop regular-season finale at Middle Georgia and await postseason fate

COCHRAN, Ga. - The Lander women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 61-54 loss on the road to the Middle Georgia State Knights.

Lander (9-18, 7-13 PBC) trailed throughout but kept battling in the Peach Belt Conference finale, forcing 20 turnovers and turning them into 14 points. The Bearcats also received a strong lift from their bench, which accounted for 35 of the team's 54 points.

Trinity Thomas led Lander with 18 points on 8-of-20 shooting and added two steals. Quadaija Langley finished with 14 points and went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. Jazz Frierson contributed six points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Lauryn Hunt grabbed eight rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.

The Bearcats shot 31.8% from the field (21-of-66) and 12.5% from 3-point range (3-of-24). Middle Georgia State (17-10, 10-10 PBC) shot 41.8% from the floor and held a 40-32 rebounding advantage. The Knights built their largest lead at 41-27 midway through the third quarter.

Despite the shooting struggles, Lander held Middle Georgia State to just one made 3-pointer and committed only 13 turnovers. The Bearcats also edged the Knights in steals (7-5) and fast-break points (6-5).

With the regular season complete, Lander now awaits its postseason fate in the Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. The Bearcats currently sit eighth in the league standings, the final qualifying spot, one game ahead of Georgia Southwestern.

Georgia Southwestern faces Columbus State on Sunday. If Georgia Southwestern wins, a tiebreaker would determine the No. 8 seed. If Columbus State wins, Lander secures the eighth seed outright.

Tournament seeding will be finalized following Sunday's results.
