Prior to her time as a Bobcat, Hurst was the graduate assistant coach at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga. During her time with the Scotties, Hurst was in charge of a variety of aspects ranging from planning practices to coordinating the team's social media. In addition to her duties with Agnes Scott, Hurst was also the assistant coach for the Douglasville Lady Tigers in Douglasville, Ga. where she coordinated fundraising efforts and managed team equipment in addition to her duties on game day.

Hurst graduated from Belmont Abbey College in 2014 with her bachelor's in Sports Management. The Lithia Springs, Ga. native was a forward and center for the Crusaders from 2010-2014. In her senior season, Hurst and the Crusaders won the program's first NCAA Tournament game since 1999 as they upset third-seeded Wingate. Hurst was also named an All-Academic team member for the Conference Carolinas. After graduation from Belmont Abbey, she went on to graduate from Georgia State University with her master's in Sports Administration.
