Men's lacrosse heads to Alabama-Huntsville for a chance at the PBC regular season title

GREENWOOD – The Lander men's lacrosse will look to secure its first regular-season title in program history as it travels to face Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday.

STORYLINES

  • The Bearcats ran over Shorter for the final regular-season game on Senior Day last Saturday. Lander took down the Hawks to the tune of 25-4, which marks the most goals scored in program history for Lander.
  • The Bearcats were led in scoring by Carter Wilcox's four goals. Rob Gadomski and Carter Clark both had three goals each. Lander saw 14 different goal scorers against the Hawks.
  • Liam Mackay, Nicholas Paige, Rhys Peterson and Kaleb Boiter all saw time in the cage against the Hawks. Mackay played the first quarter and made four saves, Paige played the second and made three saves, Peterson played the third and made four saves while Boiter rounded out the game while making four saves as well.
  • Tyler Kralj led the way in assists with three. Jake Watson and Blake Moore both picked up eight ground balls. Watson went 8-of-9 in face-offs while Moore went 12-of-15 in face-offs for the Bearcats. Luke ZirnsakDrew WilsonSterling Blake and Jake Mintz all were tied in caused turnovers with two each. The Bearcats caused 14 turnovers overall.
  • Lander has won its last five games after falling to nationally-ranked Limestone on the road 15-9.
  • The Bearcats set season-highs in points (43), goals (25), assists (18), shots on goal (41) and ground balls (72) against Shorter.
  • The Bearcats have outscored opponents 246-144 this season.
  • Lander's 246 goals scored leads the PBC for the most goals this season. Montevallo is second with 198 on the year.
  • Lander is second behind UAH in goals allowed among PBC teams. The Bearcats lead the PBC in scoring margin, shot percentage, save percentage, total ground balls, caused turnovers, clears, goals per game, assists per game, total assists, total points, points per game, total shots on goal, shots on goal per game, man-up goals per game, man-up goals per game, goals-against average and ground balls per game.
  • Lander ranks in the top-25 in total assists (6th), assists per game (9th), caused turnovers per game (18th), clearing percentage (6th), grounds balls (1st), ground balls per game (1st), total points (4th), points per game (6th), total saves (21st), scoring defense (17th), scoring margin (7th), scoring offense (4th), shot percentage (7th) and winning percentage (17th).
  • Carter Wilcox leads the Bearcats in goals scored with 45 this season. Adam Mather is close behind with 41. Mather is the team's leader in assists with 26 and points with 67. He also leads the Bearcats with 70 shots on goal.
  • Jake Watson leads the team in ground balls collected with 57 and face-offs won with 132. James Linn leads Lander in caused turnovers with 14. He is one of three Bearcats to have 10 or more caused turnovers, as Alex Ellis has 11 and Quinn Ingalls has 10.
  • Mackay has played and started all 15 games this season. He's played in over 494 minutes where he's made 112 saves. Mackay holds a GAA of 9.47 and a record of 11-3. Paige has appeared in 13 games this season and has played just under 315 minutes. He's made 70 saves this season.
  • Wilcox currently leads the PBC in total goals and goals per game. Mather is second in the conference in total goals and third in goals per game.
  • Mather is also first in the PBC in total assists and third in assists per game. Nolan Oakey is seventh in the conference in total assists with 17 and is ninth in assists per game.
  • Mather leads the PBC in total points and points per game while Wilcox is third in total points and fourth in points per game.
  • Mackay leads the PBC in GAA and has allowed the fewest goals among starters in the conference. He also holds the best save percentage in the PBC
  • The Chargers come into Saturday's contest with an 8-6 overall record and a 4-0 record in the PBC. UAH is on a four-game winning streak after losing to Lindenwood on March 26. The Chargers most recently won 14-6 on the road against Flagler.
  • The Chargers scored the first six goals of the game and led 8-3 at the half. Jax Looby led the way with three goals while four Chargers posted two goals each. Zak Welsh made 17 saves while only allowing six goals for UAH in the win.
  • UAH is outscoring opponents 181-138 this season.
  • Brody Phillips leads the Chargers in goals scored with 22 and points with 36. Ian Arnt leads the way with 16 assists. Hunter Coleman leads the Chargers in ground balls with 63 and 138 face-off wins. Brayden O'Neill is the leader in caused turnovers with 15.
  • Welsh has appeared and played in 13 games this season for UAH. He's played in over 742 minutes in the cage with 146 saves made. Welsh is 7-6 on the season while allowing 125 goals for a 10.10 GAA.
  • The winner of this contest will claim the PBC regular-season title and host the semifinals and finals of the 2022 PBC men's lacrosse tournament.
