No. 2 Bearcats to visit USC Aiken Wednesday

STORYLINES

  • Lander recorded a dominating win over UNC Pembroke, 91-53, last Wednesday in Greenwood. Natalia Crooke led the way with 25 points, while Zamiya Passmore chipped in 18 points and 11 assists for her third career double-double. 
  • The Bearcats are allowing 52.6 points per game through 10 games, which ranks sixth in the country. The program record is 54.0 points allowed per game, set by the 1980-81 squad.
  • The Bearcats lead the all-time series against USC Aiken, 49-46. Lander has won four the last five meetings.  
  • Kevin Pederson is closing in on 207 PBC wins at Lander. He enters Wednesday's game with 204 conference wins at Lander. With win No. 207, he will become the winningest coach in PBC women's basketball history. 
  • The Bearcats have won four road games this season by an average of 15.0 points per game. 
  • Lander women's basketball is playing its 45th season in 2020-21. Lander played its first full varsity season in 1976-77 under the leadership of Jerry Hawkins. During its history, the program has won 713 games, amassed 27 winning seasons, won 11 conference championships, made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances, and captured the 2012 Southeast Region championship. 
  • Head coach Kevin Pederson is in his 16th season in Greenwood. He's led the Bearcats to a record of 322-153 (.678), four PBC Tournament championships, five conference titles, 11 NCAA Tournament appearances in 14 postseasons, and one Elite Eight.
  • Pederson's 322 wins are the most in program history. The previous record was held by Katrina Sacoco, who won 119 games (1984-91, 97). 
  • Lander has been ranked nationally in 12 straight D2SIDA polls and 10 straight WBCA Coaches polls, dating back to Feb. 3, 2020. 
  • The Bearcats' No. 2 ranking is the highest for Lander since 2010-11, when the Bearcats rose to No. 1 in the USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25. 
  • Lander is 108-21 in PBC play since the 2014-15 campaign.
  • Cierra Revelle grabbed a career-high seven rebounds in last Wednesday's win over UNC Pembroke.
  • Makaila Cange has posted six double-doubles in 10 games this season.
  • Lander is one of only two teams in the PBC with just one senior on its roster.
  • The Bearcat defense has forced at least 20 turnovers in four of their last six games.
  • Passmore has recorded at least four assists in every game she's played this season.
  • Lander's 24 assists against UNC Pembroke marked a season high for the Bearcats. 
  • Cangé leads the PBC in offensive rebounds with 38, while Amiaya Melvins ranks third with 36. 
  • Lander has outscored its opponents by at least 14 in nine different quarters this season.
  • The Bearcats netted 30 points in the second quarter against UNC Pembroke, the highest-scoring quarter of the season for Lander and the most points in a period for the Bearcats since scoring 31 in the third quarter against Columbus State in last season's PBC Tournament semifinal game.
