No. 2 women's basketball hosts Columbus State Monday

GREENWOOD – The No. 2-ranked Lander women's basketball team looks to continue its winning ways Monday at 5:30 p.m. as it plays host to Columbus State inside Finis Horne Arena.

STORYLINES

  • Lander is returning to the court after recording a 70-57 win over Augusta on Saturday, forcing 16 Jaguar turnovers and outrebounding Augusta 46-34. 
  • In the win over Augusta, Lander went to the free-throw line 35 times, tied for the second-most attempts on the season. The Bearcats also pulled down 19 offensive rebounds, two shy of their season high. 
  • Makaila Cange led the way for Lander, scoring 23 points with 11 made free throws and 18 rebounds. The performance gave
  • Cangé her 10th double-double in 14 games this season. Cangé is now averaging 13.1 rebounds per game, which is on pace for the second-highest average in program history.  
  • Zamiya Passmore is averaging 19.0 points per game and is leading the conference with 6.3 assists per game. Passmore also has 25 steals and has hit 76 free throws.
  • Miriam Recarte is averaging 10.4 points and 7.6 rebounds with a team-best 41 blocks. 
  • Columbus State is coming off its first game in a month after falling to Young Harris on Saturday. The Cougars led 45-43 at halftime, but the Mountain Lions scored 10 of the game's final 15 points to earn the 86-80 win. Senior Chrisalyn Boston scored 19 points with 11 rebounds while adding one block.
  • As a team, Columbus State is averaging 69.2 points per game while allowing 73.4 points per game. The Cougars are averaging 14.4 offensive rebounds per game and are blocking 3.8 shots per contest. 
  • Monday will be the 59th all-time meeting between Lander and Columbus State in women's basketball. The Bearcats have won three straight in the series, but the Cougars lead the overall series 38-20. Lander has won the last four games in the series played in Greenwood. 
  • Lander is ranked No. 2 in the WBCA Coaches Poll and No. 3 in the D2SIDA Poll. 
  • The Bearcats currently hold a one-game lead over North Georgia for first place in the Peach Belt Conference and can clinch their second consecutive PBC regular-season title with a win or a North Georgia loss. 
  • Columbus State currently sits in seventh place in the Peach Belt Conference standings with a 2-3 mark in conference play.
  • Leading the Cougars is Olonna Rawls, who is averaging 13.4 points per game. Rawls ranks fifth in the PBC in three-point percentage, shooting 32.3 percent from beyond the arc. 
  • Columbus State allowed 14 made three-pointers by Young Harris on Saturday, the most by any team in a PBC game this season. 
  • Lander's 44 second-half points against Augusta were the most for the Bearcats since a 50-point second half against Francis Marion on Jan. 13.
  • Passmore recorded three assists in the win over Augusta, marking the first time this season she failed to tallied at least four assists in a game. 
  • Lander's three steals against the Jaguars were a season low and the fewest a Bearcat team has recorded since Lander managed two steals in a 72-68 win over Columbus State in the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship.
  • Recarte has blocked a shot in 16 consecutive games and has multiple blocks in nine of Lander's 14 games this season.
