GREENWOOD – The Lander women's basketball team rode Tabitha Dailey's 22 points and Makaila Cange's double-double as the Bearcats extended their winning streak to nine with an 84-62 victory over Peach Belt Conference rival Clayton State Monday afternoon on Martin Luther King Day at Horne Arena.

The Bearcats improved to 13-3 overall while leading the PBC at 8-0. Lander matched its best start in Peach Belt Conference play since 2014-15.

Clayton State suffered its 10th consecutive loss to the Bearcats, falling to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in the conference.

"A very good effort [from] start to finish against a very good Clayton State team," said head coach Kevin Pederson. "You look at our freshmen, I thought they did a great job of coming through. Just a good effort start to finish."

Lander took a 19-18 all-time series lead against Clayton State, which won a national championship in 2011. Lander has scored at least 80 points in nine of its last 10 wins over the Lakers.

The Bearcats have held six of their last seven opponents under 70 points and are 9-0 this season when allowing fewer than 70 points. Clayton State was second to Lander in points per game in the conference coming into Monday's action.

Dailey made nine of 11 shots from the floor and four of five free throws in totaling the game-high 22 points.

Jessica Harris added 15 points while leading the Bearcats with six assists. The senior is 23 points away from passing Lorain Truesdale for sixth on the program's all-time scoring list.

Zamiya Passmore also scored 15 points for Lander.

Cange had her first career double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. She had 10 boards by midway through the second quarter.

Sarah Crews and Miriam Recarte each scored seven points off the Bearcats bench while Aniaya Jester added eight rebounds and five steals.

Kelsie Towns led the Lakers with 15 points while Taneria Wilson added 10 points.

The Bearcats dominated the boards, 43-25

Lander used a 19-4 run to turn a 7-6 deficit into a 25-12 lead with Passmore, Dailey and Harris combining for all the points. The Bearcats led 27-18 after the first quarter in which they forced 10 turnovers, including five consecutive possessions.

Harris and Crews hit 3s as Lander opened the second period with eight unanswered points to lead 35-18. Jester's three-point play gave the Bearcats their largest lead of the first half at 40-22 with 4:52 left.

Lander led 42-29 at halftime.

Clayton State pulled within 46-35 just inside the eight-minute mark of the third quarter on a basket by former Bearcat Christal Williams. But Lander closed the period on an 18-8 run to lead 64-43 going into the fourth.

Cange scored twice in the opening minute of the final quarter as the lead grew to 70-43 with 9:08 to go and the Bearcats cruised to the victory.
