Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Breshay Johnson poured in a game-high 21 points Friday evening to lead five Bearcats in double figures en route to a 91-49 non-conference victory over Converse in the Courtyard Classic.
Lander, which led 57-31 at halftime, improves to 2-1 on the year, while Converse drops to 0-1.
Johnson made 9-of-12 shots from the floor and was 3-of-6 from the free throw line, while grabbing eight rebounds. Ty'hesha Reynolds added 15 points, five assists and three steals; Destinee Langford has 12 points, three rebounds and three steals; Mylea McKenith finished with 11 points, four rebounds and four steals; and Zuzana Talackova finished with 11 points and six rebounds.
For Converse, Keocia Walker and Brianna James led the Valkyries with 13 points each, while Hannah Anderson collected four rebounds.
The Bearcats were 33-of-69 from the field (47.8 percent), including 12-of-35 threes (34.3 percent), and 13-of-21 foul shots (61.9).
Converse connected on 14-of-48 floor shots (29.2 percent), including 2-of-13 threes (15.4 percent), and 19-of-29 free throws (65.5 percent).
The Bearcats outrebounded the Valkyries, 49-25.
Lander wraps up the Courtyard Classic tomorrow afternoon against Johnson C. Smith at 2:00 p.m.
