Box Score GREENWOOD – The Carson-Newman women's basketball team connected on 53.6 percent of its field goals and defeated Lander, 73-62, Saturday afternoon during the second day of the Peach Belt/South Atlantic Challenge at Horne Arena.
Carson-Newman improves to 2-0 overall, while Lander slips to 1-1.
Ty'Hesha Reynolds led the Bearcats with 14 points, while Breshay Johnson added 13 points, and Bre Crum 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Carson-Newman's Kailyn Brooks connected on three three-pointers and led the Eagles with 22 points, while Tatum Burstom had five threes and 17 points, and Taylor Peterson two threes and 12 points. Jessica Simerly led C-N in rebounds with seven.
The Eagles led 21-19 after the first quarter by connecting on 50 percent of their shots, including eight threes. They stretched the lead to 41-35 at halftime.

Lander rallied in the fourth period to cut the margin to 56-53 with 7:32 left in the game on a Reynolds' jumper. But the Eagles extended its lead to 12 points at 69-57 on a Burstrom three with 3:06 left for their biggest advantage of the game.
Carson-Newman won the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Lady Bearcats, 38-33.
For the game, the Eagles connected on 30-of-56 field goals (53.6 percent), including 10-23 threes (43.5 percent), and 3-of-4 free throws (75 percent).
Lander made 24-of-67 floor shots (35.8 percent), including 3-of-30 threes (15 percent), and 11-of-16 foul shots (68.8 percent).
The Bearcats will next travel to Erskine College for a non-conference game at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18 in Due West.
