AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Lander's Bre Crum converted on an old-fashioned three-point play with 21 seconds remaining Saturday afternoon to cap a 14-point, second-half comeback and give the Lady Bearcats' women's basketball team its 11th consecutive win, an 81-78 Peach Belt Conference victory over Flagler College.
Lander, which is ranked No. 5 in the latest D2SIDA Southeast Region poll, improves to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the PBC. The victory marked Lander head coach Kevin Pederson's milestone 100th PBC victory. Flagler drops to 2-7, 0-3.
Ty'hesha Reynolds scored 20 points to lead five Lander players in double figures. Reynolds connected on 7-of-16 field goals and 5-of-8 free throws while adding three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Crum chipped in 16 points and four assists; Portia McCray 12 points and six rebounds; Kayla West 12 points and seven rebounds; and Breshay Johnson 11 points and nine rebounds.
Flagler's Teosha Ray and Parker Nayman both had double doubles for the Lady Saints. Ray netted a game-high 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Nayman had 19 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Treva Mason contributed 16 points and seven rebounds, and DeAsha Campbell eight point and nine rebounds.
The Lady Bearcats made 28-of-67 total field goals (41.8 percent), including two threes, and downed 23-of-32 free throws (71.9 percent).
Flagler connected on 30-of-80 field goals (37.5 percent), including 5-of-18 threes (27.8 percent), and 13-of-25 foul shots (52 percent).
After being tied 34-34 at halftime, Flagler stretched out to a 14-point lead at 56-42 with 13:56 remaining in the contest on a Ray three pointer.
The Lady Bearcats went on a 17-5 tear over the next six minutes and trimmed the Flagler lead to 63-61 on a Mylea McKenneth layup with 7:25 left to play.
Lander got the lead down to one-point on two occasions before Cierra Kendrick tied the game at 66-all on a free throw at the 4:02 mark.
After three more ties and five lead changes, the Lady Bearcats went up for good at 79-78 on Crum's three-point play with 21 seconds remaining. After a Nayman missed jumper with 11 seconds left, Reynolds went to the line to convert on two free throws with six seconds left to finalize the scoring.
