Box Score GREENWOOD – Lander pitcher Logan Pemberton extended his scoreless streak to 13 and two-thirds innings this season with six-plus innings of shutout baseball Sunday afternoon as the Bearcats completed a three-game sweep over defending national champion and No. 2 ranked West Chester University 5-0 at Dolny Stadium.
Lander improved to 5-1 while the Golden Rams fell to 0-3. The Bearcats outscored West Chester 26-5 in the three-game series.
Pemberton (2-0) was spectacular again Sunday, one week after tossing seven shutout innings against North Greenville. Against West Chester, Pemberton allowed only three hits in 6.2 innings. He walked two and struck out 11.
In two games, Pemberton has struck out 20, walked only two and allowed nine hits in 13.2 innings.
Patrick Grady homered for the Bearcats, Weston Lawing had two RBI, and the team stole eight bases. Lawing and Grady had three steals apiece.
Lander broke out in the bottom of the third, taking a 4-0 lead. Ian Harvey got the rally started by collecting a single in his first at-bat of the season, stole second and scored on Graham Ramos's double over the left fielder's head. Grady was hit by a pitch for the second straight time, and Lawing followed with a two-run single up the middle. Colby Painter drove Lawing in with a triple over the center fielder's head.
West Chester threatened in the seventh when Jordan Wlodarczyk hit a leadoff double that just eluded center fielder Harvey's glove, and after Pemberton struck out Nick Bonadies, Rob Lessig walked. Pemberton then struck out Rob Spekhardt. Tyler Broome replaced Pemberton and got Kyle Frazier to fly out to deep left.
Grady led off with the bottom of the seventh with a home run over the left-field fence to increase Lander's lead to 5-0.
Meanwhile, Bearcats relievers kept the shutout intact with Broome and Bryce Clifton pitching one inning apiece, and Jeremy Jansen getting the final out.
Connor Kerins (0-1) took the loss for the Rams, allowing four runs on four hits in 2.2 innings. Matt McAllister allowed a run on four hits in 4.1 innings of relief for West Chester, and Kyle Weary tossed one scoreless inning.
Leading hitters were Lander were Painter, 2-for-4 with a double, triple and an RBI; Harvey, 2-for-4; Grady, 1-for-3 with a homer and two runs scored; and Lawing, 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Wlodarczyk was West Chester's leading hitter, going 2-for-4.
