HICKORY, N.C. – The Lander women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie Friday evening in a non-conference contest against Lees-McRae in both schools' season-opening game.

Molly Ames gave Lees-McRae a 1-0 lead at 74:15 on an unassisted goal from 30 yards out that bounced over the goalkeeper's head. But Lander came right back 22 seconds later and tied the game at 1-all when Casey Black booted the ball in from the middle of the box off an assist from Nina Morales.

Lander outshot the Lady Bobcats, 21-15, and led in corner kicks, 3-1. Jamie Shaw led Lander with eight shots.

Lady Bearcat goalkeeper Kelsey Blair had nine saves, while LMC's Kaitlyn Briggs tallied seven.
