Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Jasmine Judge, the top three-point shooter in NCAA Division II, came through in the clutch Saturday afternoon when she drained her third three of the game with just three seconds remaining to give the Lander women's basketball team a 52-50 Peach Belt Conference victory over Montevallo at BankTrust Arena.
Lander, which remains unbeaten in Peach Belt Conference play, improves to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in the PBC, while Montevallo drops to 6-8, 1-4 PBC.
Brittni Johnson and Ciara Lyons scored 12 points each to lead the Lady Bearcats, while Kaylyn Small led the team in rebounds with 12. Judge leads the country in threes made per game with 4.0 per game.
Montevallo's Teanna Boxley scored a game-high 15 points, while Shavonne Seymore added 10. Davia Harris led the Lady Falcons in rebounds with a game-high 14.
Lander connected on 21-of-64 field goals for 32.8 percent, including 6-of-28 threes for 21.4 percent. The Lady Bearcats sank 4-of-6 free throws for 66.7 percent.
Montevallo, which outrebounded Lander, 45-37, made 19-of-56 floor shots for 33.9 percent, including 2-of-9 threes for 22.2 percent. The Lady Falcons were 10-of-12 from the free throw line for 83.3 percent.
After battling to a 25-25 tie at halftime, Lander eased out to a six-point lead at 41-35 with 12:16 remaining in the game on a Lyons' layup.
Montevallo then cut the lead to one point on four occasions and took a 48-47 advantage with 2:45 left on a Harris layup.
Lander regained the lead at 49-48 on a Janyce Ealey jumper with 1:35 remaining, only to have Montevallo come right back and take a 50-49 lead with 20 seconds left on a pair of Tiffany McClure free throws.
In the first half, neither team led by more than three points until Lander made it 22-18 on a Johnson three pointer with 2:13 remaining. Montevallo quickly cut it to 22-20 on another pair of McClure foul shots at 1:49.
Johnson's three at 1:27 gave the Lady Bearcats a 25-20 advantage, their largest of the first half, but a Boxley jumper with 16 seconds left and McClure's three at the buzzer made is 25-25.
