MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Lander volleyball team claimed its regular-season finale Saturday afternoon when the Bearcats upset the University of Montevallo, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 26-24), in a Peach Belt Conference game in Bank Trust Arena.
Lander improves to 11-15 overall and 5-9 in the PBC, while Montevallo drops to 22-11, 11-3.
Candace LaRocca, Magi Nottingham and Melissa McCracken all posted double-doubles for the Bearcats, who had a .246 hitting percentage. LaRocca totaled 35 assists and 12 digs, Nottingham had 14 kills and 11 digs, and McCracken had 14 kills and 13 digs. Madions Kubal added 10 digs, while Lindsey Everhart had nine kills. Lander had 17 blocks with Hannah Dederick leading the way with six.
Montevallo, which had a .108 hitting percentage, was led by Virginia Clay (12 kills, two service aces), Anna Garrison (35 assists and 12 digs), and Brittany Wilson (16 digs).
The Bearcats will next participate in the Peach Belt Conference tournament, which will be held Nov. 12-13, at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga.
