Lady Bearcats move up to No. 2 in USA Today/ESPN poll

GREENWOOD - The unbeaten Lander women's basketball team (6-0) improved one spot to No. 2 this week in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Coaches Poll which was released today. The ranking is the highest ever for a Lander women's basketball team.

The Lady Bearcats, who defeated NCAA Division I Winthrop last week, 70-40, earned five first-place votes and are second to Delta State University.

Arkansas Tech, which was the top-ranked team in the country last week, lost to West Alabama, 85-73, on Saturday.

The remainder of the top 10 are: 3. Fort Lewis, 4. Washburn, 5. Seattle Pacific, 6. Arkansas Tech, 7. Franklin Pierce, 8. Holy Family, 9. Clayton State, and 10. Emporia State.

The second 10 are: 11. Indianapolis, 12. West Texas A&M, 13. Northeastern State, 14. Grand Valley State, 15. Alaska-Anchorage, 16. Millersville, 17. Augustana, 18. Wayne State, 19. Michigan Tech, and 20. Western Washington.

Rounding out the top 25 are: 21. California State-Chico, 22. Gannon, 23. Tusculum, 24. California State of Pennsylvania, and 25. Francis Marion.
