GREENWOOD - Melissa McCracken had a game-high 22 kills and two other Lander volleyball players posted double-doubles Friday night as the Bearcats triumphed over UNC Pembroke, 3-2, in a Peach Belt Conference game in Horne Arena. Game scores were: 22-25, 27-25, 25-27, 25-19, 15-8.
Lander improves to 13-8 overall and 5-4 in the PBC, while UNCP drops to 8-13, 1-7. Leading 6-5 in the fifth game, Lander went on a 6-1 run to take a 12-6 lead. From there, the Bearcats got two kills and a service ace from Magi Nottingham and another kill by Lindsey Everhart to put the game away.
Candace LaRocca had 61 assists and 18 digs for the Bearcats and Nottingham posted 11 kills and 13 digs. Everhart and Courtney Simmons added 17 and 16 kills respectively, while Ashley Ferry recorded 36 digs. LaRocca and Nottingham added two service aces each.
UNCP was led by Jessica Hartley (11 kills, 16 digs), Tiara Anderson (17 kills, three service aces), Sam Wylie (45 assists, 17 digs), Andrea Laza (20 digs), and Allie Schneider (17 digs).
Lander will host Francis Marion at 3 p.m., Saturday, in a PBC contest in Horne Arena.
