ORLANDO, Fla. - Led by Charlie Hoyle's 4-under-par 140, the Lander men's golf team finished second of 12 teams Tuesday in the two-day, Coker College Invitational held at the par-72 Orange County National golf course. (Final Results)
Third-ranked Florida Southern College won the tournament with a team-low 568, followed by: 2. Lander 569, 3. Coker 580, 4. Mount Olive 581, 5. Rollins and Barton 584, 7. Georgia Southwestern 585, 8. Armstrong Atlantic 586, 9. Newberry 588, 10. Carson-Newman 590, 11. Dallas Baptist 591, and 12. St. Andrews Presbyterian 593.
Hoyle shot 70 in both rounds and finished in fourth place among the 60 golfers. Bryan Newton (70-72=142) tied for seventh; Billy Belair (73-71=144) and Roberto Nasalli-Rocca (68-76=144) tied for 10th; and Cooper Tinsley (72-77=149) tied for 38th.
Lander led the tournament after the first round when the Bearcats fired a 280 for a two-shot lead over Florida Southern.
