GREENWOOD - The Lander volleyball team moved to the top of the Peach Belt Conference standings Saturday when the Bearcats defeated UNC Pembroke, 25-15, 25-16, 25-15, on Senior Day in Horne Arena.
Lander improves to 20-9 overall and 6-2 in the PBC, while UNCP falls to 12-16, 2-7. Seniors Marina Camps, Kerri Sorensen and Kay Stewart were honored before the game.
Kendall Eayrs led the way for the Bearcats with 10 kills, while Magi Nottingham added eight kills and 12 digs and Stewart had eight kills. Candace LaRocca had 37 assists and three services aces.
Lander posted a .300 hitting average, while UNCP had .067.
The Braves were led by Allie Schneider (six kills, two service aces), Lizzie O'Connor (six kills), Kayla Marbert (10 assists), Andrea Laza (10 digs) and Caitlin Haworth (10 digs).
Lander next travels to Armstrong Atlantic for a 7 p.m. PBC game on Friday, Nov. 7.
